Maker Marketplace, Tours, Food Trucks and Beer, Oh My!

There’s so much more to do at the Festival of Combustion.  Make a day of it!  From fireworks and food trucks to a makers’ marketplace and tours of the site, there’s plenty more to discover. Rivers of Steel is excited to host a curated selection of the area’s most talented makers and artisans who will be selling their wares throughout the day.  Get some early holiday shopping in or grab a piece of local art to add to your own collection.

Mini Blast Furnace Tours

1:00 – 6:00 p.m.

A festival experience at Carrie Furnaces would not be complete without a guided mini tour of the facility.  Experience the wonder and beauty of this 20th century industrial marvel and hear about what it was like to work the mill from those who actually did.

These tours fill up FAST! We recommend signing up earlier in the day.

COST = Mini tours are included in festival admission but space is limited.

Stilt walking with Bradford House Historical association

Lil’ Rebel Area

1:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Heritage area partners The Bradford House Historical Association will host a Lil Rebel Area during this year’s festival with children’s activities that include hands-on 18th-century games such as a rolling hoop, stilts, quoits, slates/quills, and a critter game.  Visitors can also enjoy free raffles and give aways for the kiddos.

Group Tours the Iron Garden

Iron Garden Tours

1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Discover how nature has reclaimed this post-industrial landscape on a free tour of the Carrie Furnaces’ Iron Garden. You’ll explore a dense variety of ecological grown and learn about Rivers of Steel’s “addition by reduction” approach to working these wild gardens and grounds.

Food Trucks!

1:00 – 8:30 p.m.

The Festival of Combustion will have no shortage of great local food this year so come hungry!  Whether its Barbeque you like, Mexican or something a bit lighter, there are options for  both meat lovers and vegetarians at this year’s event.  Food trucks will be on site all day and evening. And it goes without saying there will be some cool treats for the kiddos.
