CARRIE BLAST FURNACES

QUICK LOOK AT CARRIE

A National Historic Landmark in the Monongahela River Valley

The Carrie Blast Furnaces National Historic Landmark is a space that is uniquely Pittsburgh. A vestige of Pittsburgh’s 20th-century domination of the steel industry, it also reflects the Pittsburgh of today—a dynamic place that is made stronger by its diversity of its assets.

The Pump House

QUICK LOOK AT THE PUMP HOUSE

Immerse yourself in Pittsburgh’s industrial heritage.

Situated just across the Monongahela River from the Carrie Blast Furnaces, the historic Pump House at the Waterfront was once part of the U.S. Steel Homestead Works. Featuring exposed-brick walls and wooden plank floorboards, the interior feels less like the industrial relic it is and more like a step back in time.

Serving as the Visitors’ Center for the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area, this National Historic Landmark offers exhibits on the region’s industrial and cultural heritage.
